Responsibilities

What are the responsibilities of Child Find?

Child Find is locating, evaluating and identifying students with suspected disability conditions birth to 21 years of age.  The following federal laws, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, mandate a Child Find system to develop procedures to ensure the coordination of appropriate identification and delivery of services for students with suspected disabilities. The specific regulations require the establishment of a system for “the location, evaluation and identification of students with suspected disabilities”. The referral process for evaluation is a part of the state-mandated regular education referral and Child Find System.  All children with suspected disabilities who are residing in the Little Cypress Mauriceville CISD, including children who are homeless or are wards of the State, and children with suspected disabilities attending private schools, religious schools or homeschooled, regardless of the severity of their disability are a part of the state-mandated regular education referral and Child Find System
